Here we try out a new song called “KC Bounce”, inspired by the beautiful city of Kansas City, MO. Special guest tenor saxophonist James Casey takes a slow-burning solo that builds to a fiery climax.

Hey all, we had such a great time on our Pittsburgh/Cleveland trip last week! Here are some excerpts from our Cleveland performance at Nighttown, a wonderfully intimate jazz club. Josh David takes a sick slap-bass solo on “Fresh” Pt. 1, followed by a vicious sax attach by Brian Hogans. “Fresh” Pt. 2 features drum and percussion breaks from Gabriel Wallace and Shawn Banks. “Sunset Park” Pt. 1 opens with an improvised solo piano prelude by yours truly (Jesse Fischer) and then showcases Brian Hogans over funky clavinet comping. The rhythm section of Josh David, Shawn Banks, and Gabriel Wallace are featured in the extended afro-beat vamp of “Sunset Park” Pt. 2.

Finally, a sneak peak into Soul Cycle’s next album: a brand-new ballad called “A New Beginning”. This beautiful waltz features an extended piano solo from composer Jesse Fischer and a soulful turn from Brian Hogans on alto sax. Enjoy!

Soul Cycle at Joe’s Pub

We finished up our release tour at the legendary Joe’s Pub in NYC. What a phenomenal venue! Sound and lighting were great, staff was very professional, and an intimate and sophisticated space. We played the hits from Mosaic and Urban Organics, and Rogiérs joined us for an impromptu version of OutKast’s “Prototype”. Check out the video:

Last Friday, Soul Cycle had the opportunity to perform in front of a capacity audience at the 2010 NYC Winter JazzFest, a watershed event that featured over 40 jazz groups showcasing in 5 venues over two days. Headliners included Vijay Iyer, Chris Dave, Nicholas Payton, Lionel Loueke, Gretchen Parlato, and many other amazing artists! Here are some highlights from our set:

What an amazing time we had at the release party! Rogiérs blessed us with his sexy spin on “Blue in Green,” we performed new material from Mosaic including the first single, “Lagos”, and we flipped fan favorite “Empty Pockets” with a go-go feel! There was even an impromptu jam session at the end featuring a bunch of heavy-hitters who came out to support. Check it out now and leave comments!

Just got back from playing at NJPAC for their Sounds of the City outdoor festival. We had a blast being on stage in front of several hundred people; the weather was great and we couldn’t have asked for a more enthusiastic audience! We decided to do Miles Davis and Bill Evan’s classic ballad “Blue in Green”, but I wanted to make it into a nice soulful summertime jam. Here’s what we came up with:
